I was at a birthday party yesterday where many of the guests were professionals of one sort or another. I was asked a few questions about living in a boat and this led to one guy uncovering my 'dropout' credentials. The more I attempted to explain my life and philosophy the more interested and frustrated he became, not to mention slightly panic-stricken. Quite a few people were listening in too. I was able to outline my problem of being unable to trade with the dominant culture - being unwilling to fit the 'normal' work pattern and finding little in society that I wanted to buy. This gave me an opening to mention the Idle Foundation, which generated even more interest, incredulity and panic. The words 'insanity' and 'stupidity' cropped up more than once - a situation I am well used to dealing with. The conversation left me feeling a bit 'jangled' but I felt I had left people thinking, challenged the status quo and banged the IF drum satisfactorily. Sometimes revolutions have to be won person by person. I think conditions are in our favour too.
I understand Ms Anthropist's anxiety about the need for active opposition rather than passive withdrawal; I feel similarly. I think a lot can be done by living as we wish to live and doing the things to which we're naturally drawn, paid or otherwise. Another way of changing things is to just be careful where we put our pennies - i.e. resist the Mark One top and use a charity shop or buy/trade a friend's hand-made item. Each individual penny is a kind of vote, and when you hand them over you are indicating a request for more of the same. The world is a puppet controlled by money-strings and we all hold some of them.
Sometimes I enjoy being stopped by chuggers and watching their panic and confusion grow as they uncover my lack of a real job, pension, secure home, savings etc. They always claim to be trying to change the world and then are terrified when I leave them with the realisation that perhaps their world doesn't really exist.

How deep the rabbit hole goes.
We are being trapped in a 5 sense reality, slogans thrust in at us from every angle, herd ideology spreads out like an incessant fungus, the puppeteers pull the strings and the herd behaves as one, dumb and dumber. Thankfully increasing numbers are seeing behind the veil and saying 'thanks, but no thanks'.
Don't be intimidated we have the numbers, the solutions exist, there is no scarcity, in reality only peaceful abundance. Dream harder and don't let anyone tell you what to think, including me!
Look up at the stars it's all yours!! Your inheritance from the universe!! You are not small, helpless, powerless as they would have you believe!!
