we all shloop out into the world naked, bloody, confused and bewildered and are totally dependent upon each other, and upon our environment, from then on.
for me it's about honesty, i've no problem asking for help from any source as long as i don't feel that i'm obtaining it under false pretences. that's why i'm happy to be a 'jobseeker' now that i'm gearing up for self-employment, though i haven't done in the past when i've just been workshy.
there's also a case to be made that idlers are actually 'sufferers', who are sick to the core of how the world is run. we are disabled by our own inate humanity so we're probably entitled to be subsidised by the soulless fucks who are making it all so unbearable. it's better to get time out on the dole sometimes than end up a total basket case and spend the rest of your life sucking up resources from the nhs
what i like about this forum is that it's a space where idlers can acknowledge their interdependence, giving and receiving help, humour and support freely for no reason other than that we recognise each other as fellow beings.
i'm grateful for it every day !
i was watching a film about Robert Wyatt the other day (too late to nominate him for an idle hero award ?) and at one point he says something like "wherever i go i meet lovely people, the world is full of mostly helpful friendly nice people, i just can't understand why it's almost universally run by complete bastards" amen
